Privacy

Sorrell Private Trust is committed to preserving and protecting the privacy and confidentiality of its clients and employees. All information collected and handled by SPT will be subject to the rules and regulations stipulated by Canada’s federal and provincial legislation.  It is a fundamental principle that SPT shall meet or exceed the standards established by such legislation. SPT shall additionally be guided by the following principles:

 

  1. Accountability - SPT is responsible for maintaining and protecting client personal information under its control and shall designate the Privacy Officer to be accountable for SPT’s privacy and personal information compliance.

  2. Identifying Purposes - The purposes for which personal client information is collected shall be identified by SPT before or at the time the information is collected.

  3. Consent - The knowledge and consent of the client are required for the collection, use or disclosure of personal client information except where required or permitted by law.

  4. Limiting Collection - The personal client information collected must be limited to that which is necessary for the purposes identified by SPT. Information must be collected by fair and lawful means.

  5. Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention – Personal client information may only be used or disclosed for the purpose for which it was collected unless the client has otherwise consented, or when it is required or permitted by law. Personal client information shall only be retained for the period of time required to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected.

  6. Accuracy – Personal client information shall be as accurate, complete and up-to-date as is necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it is to be used.

  7. Safeguards – Personal client information shall be protected by security safeguards that are appropriate to the sensitivity level of the information.

  8. Openness – SPT shall make specific personal information readily available to clients concerning the policies and practices that apply to the management of their personal information.

  9. Individual Access - Upon request, clients shall be informed of the existence, use and disclosure of their information, and be given access to such information. Clients may verify the accuracy and completeness of their information, and have it amended, as appropriate.

  10. Challenging Compliance - Clients may direct any questions or enquiries with respect to the privacy principles outlined above or about SPT privacy practices by contacting the Privacy Officer.

 

Withdrawal of Consent

 

Sorrell Private Trust clients may withdraw consent to our collection, use and disclosure of personal information at any time, provided that:

 

  1. There are no legal requirements or obligations for SPT to use a client’s personal information; and

  2. The withdrawal of consent does not result in SPT’s inability to fulfill any agreement between SPT and the client.

Website Privacy

 

Like most other commercial websites, SPT may monitor traffic patterns, including information about how you accessed our website, the pages you visited, what content you may have downloaded, and the site you visited immediately before coming to our site. This information is measured for general statistics and does not reveal your individual identity.  

 

Small files containing specific bits of information that a website creates when you visit a site are known as cookies. A cookie is a piece of data stored on a visitor’s computer that help us improve the experience and identify repeat visitors.  Cookies can be used to enhance the experience on our site.  Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information on our site.

SPT may make changes to this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect revisions in the legislation or changes in our legal and/or regulatory obligations.
